Fire Pit Material

Each of our custom fire pits can be gas or wood and used as a stand-alone feature or incorporated into your patio to add ambiance and light to your outdoor kitchen or living space surfaces.

Paver Fire Fits: If you’re a Houston homeowner looking for a cost-effective fire pit, then look no further. Paver fire pits can either be mortared in or simply stacked underneath a solid base of non-combustible material.

Flagstone Fire Pits: If you are looking for a Houston firepit that will stand the test of time and looks more natural, then flagstone may be the right choice for you as it will not shift or crack when our temperatures change and are extremely easy to maintain.

Brick Fire Pits: This is another popular option among many homeowners due to the large variety of colors and designs available for your outdoor fire feature. Kiln dried brick is the safest brick fire pit for Houston area homeowners as it can withstand the heat of flames.

Stone Fire Pits: These firepits are sturdy and can be laid or mortared, making them the most versatile fire pit construction materials. From a simple circle of stacked stones to a detailed structure faced with natural stone veneer, the options are endless with stone fire pits.

Regardless of which material you choose, family and friends of all ages will enjoy sitting around your outdoor fire pit sharing stories, roasting marshmallows, and enjoying time together in no time, call us today and start the process of designing your Houston fire pit from our pro's at Emerson Exterior Home Enhancements.

Commonly Asked Questions About Fire Pits?

Q: How much does a custom fire pit cost?

A: Custom fire pits are an investment, but they also yield a high return on your investment. Most elaborate fire pits start around $5,000, but this all depends on the type of material, size, and features you wish to add that will easily make your firepit the focal point of your Houston outdoor living space.

Q: What’s the difference between a custom and prefabricated fire pit?

A. The biggest difference is price and durability. A prefabricated model may need to be replaced every 3 to 5 years due to being exposed to the outdoor weather elements such as rain and humidity, which causes them to rust, where a custom firepit is made to stand up to Mother Nature. Our fire pits in Houston are a permanent structure that, while they are a larger investment upfront, are easy to maintain and can add a 67% ROI should you choose to sell your home.

Q: Can you only use firepits during the fall and winter?

A: While you may think that you can only use a fire pit during the winter months, actually, they can be functional year around. During the Houston summer heat wave, simply add a tub filled with ice and turn your firepit into an instant drink station.

Q: What is the best material to build a fire pit?

A: Generally, you want to ensure you are using fire-resistant material for the inner section of the firepit, such as fire brick and fire-resistant stucco/mortar. The outer section can be composed of flagstone, pavers, brick, and other masonry products. It is important that you do not use any non-porous materials such as pea gravel, river rocks, or compressed blocks, as these will trap steam and can eventually explode.

Q: What do you put in the bottom of a fire pit?

A: You’ll want to start with a layer of sand at the bottom of the pit and then top the sand with gravel, lava rocks, fire pit glass, paving stones, or even bricks for your fire pit. Alternatively, you can simply use dirt.

Q: What are the benefits of a firepit in Houston?

A. Campfires have been drawing people together for thousands of years.  There is something special when we share a seat by the fire.  Time seems to slow.  Life stresses seem to melt away, making them enjoyable year-round, and fire pits are completely safe when used correctly.
