Ranch Wood Fence Options

Cedar: This is the best choice for a ranch wood fence due to its durability. On average, with proper installation and routine maintenance, this ranch wood fence will last for 20 to 30 years before needing to be replaced. Here’s why, cedar has natural tanning oils that not only give it a rich reddish-brown tone, but the oil repels wood-boring critters, such as termites, and will not shrink or warp when it becomes damp, but this lumber will cause check-in your ranch wood fence. This is a crack that develops along the surface but will not compromise the structural integrity of your ranch wood fence. Thus, it is also great lumber because it’s less prone to turning gray when treated with wood sealant. It will waterproof your ranch wood fence and keep it from needing any major repairs due to rain or rot until the fifteen-year mark.

Pressure Treated: If you are seeking a more budget-friendly option for your ranch wood fence, then consider pressure-treated lumber that has been kiln-dried to protect your ranch wood fence from wood rot, mildew, fungus, and weathering. While the chemicals used to treat the lumber will increase the lifespan of your fence, it will not last as long as cedar. As with most any material you choose, you’ll either pay more upfront or in the long run. On average, these ranch wood fences last 15 to 20 years but will need to be sealed every three years for added strength and longevity.

Wood Ranch Style Fences

We are one of the leading fence companies throughout Houston and South Texas because we offer a variety of wood ranch-style fences for our customers to choose from. Let’s take a look at some of the available options to see which one best suits your needs.

Split Rail: This wood ranch-style fence is easily constructed using less lumber and therefore is more economical for ranchers with more significant properties. They come in 2,3 and 4 rails and can be combined with limestone or stone columns for an upgraded look. If you like the look of a split rail wood fence but have smaller animals, then we suggest using wire between the rails to keep smaller animals corralled safely.

Round Rail: In addition, to a split rail wood ranch style fence we also offer round rails. The main difference between these two styles is that the round rail is a sturdier wood fence for livestock, such as horses and cattle, where the gaps in a split rail make it easier for livestock to escape. You can still have a rustic look, but round rails are milled and smooth, making this a more expensive option because it requires more lumber.

Diamond Rail: Our last option for a wood ranch-style fence is a true eye-catcher. The rails create a diamond effect that makes these ranch wood fences more elegant for highly valued properties that do not want to sacrifice looks or functionality.

At Emerson’s Exterior Home Enhancements, all our ranch wood fences come with a pressure-treated post that works best in soil and comes standard with ground dowels tapered on both ends of the post, or for a more refined look; we suggest using cedar planks.

What Makes Our Ranch Wood Fences Better?

When it comes to installing a ranch wood fence, Emerson does things differently than the competition. Here is what makes us stand head and shoulders above the competition, but you don't have to take it from us; hear what our customers say.

Built On Site: We hand-select each board we install to ensure you are getting the highest quality of wood, and we build each ranch wood fence on site so that it is custom graded to your property.

Fasteners: Emerson only uses screws when installing to give you the most robust barrier. Nails are prone to popping or rusting, which means fence repairs. With screws, your ranch wood fence is firmly intact.

Post: As anyone knows, your fence is only as strong as the post, and this is why our fence builders use pressure-treated posts and 50 pounds of concrete rather than pea gravel or sand.

Warranty: We want you to feel confident in choosing us to build your ranch wood fence, so for your peace of mind, we offer you a more extended warranty than you will find elsewhere.
